The Friends of the Hughes River envisions a West Virginia whose citizens are healthy, well educated, empowered, and proactive; who have a strong sense of community, opportunities for rewarding employment and an enviable quality of life.
We believe that we will achieve our goals when we:
- Develop programs and activities that will help to educate and inform others about the condition of the Hughes River and its contribution to the economic, social, environmental, and political development of the region;
- Provide leadership and support for programs that will enhance the health of the river;
- Create activities and monitoring programs that will enhance the ecosystem as a whole;
- Report to government agencies and the media when monitoring programs or other sources indicate the watershed may have been compromised by unlawful pollutants.
